J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the rear of the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.

  4. Object Number: 364839  Size: SH
  5. Remove the rear bumper fascia outer support to rear end panel nuts.

  6. Object Number: 364835  Size: SH
  7. Remove the rear bumper fascia outer support to rear wheelhouse bolts.
  8. Use theJ 38778 to remove the rear bumper fascia to rear wheelhouse push-in retainers.
  9. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .

  11. Use theJ 38778 to remove the rear bumper fascia to rear bumper impact bar push-in retainers.

  12. Object Number: 364833  Size: SH
  13. Use theJ 38778 to remove the rear bumper fascia to rear end panel push-in retainer.
  14. Remove the rear bumper fascia to rear end panel bolts.

  15. Object Number: 364831  Size: SH
  16. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the body.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear bumper fascia to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 364833  Size: SH
  3. Install the rear bumper fascia to rear end panel push-in retainer.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the rear bumper fascia to rear end panel bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia to rear end panel bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Install the rear bumper fascia to rear bumper impact bar push-in retainers.
  8. Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .
  9. Install the rear bumper fascia to rear wheelhouse push-in retainers.

  10. Object Number: 364835  Size: SH
  11. Install the rear bumper fascia outer support to rear wheelhouse bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer support to rear wheelhouse bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  13. Install the rear bumper fascia outer support to rear end panel nuts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper outer support to rear end panel nuts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Install the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  16. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
