INFO - DIAGNOSTIC AND WARRENTY POLICY PROC. FOR RKE

SUBJECT: INFORMATION - DIAGNOSTIC AND WARRANTY POLICY PROCEDURES FOR REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) INADEQUATE RANGE OR INOPERATIVE

MODELS: 1997-99 BUICK PARK AVENUE, LESABRE, RIVIERA 1997-99 OLDSMOBILE AURORA, EIGHTY EIGHT, LSS, REGENCY 1997-99 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE 1998-99 CADILLAC DEVILLE, ELDORADO, SEVILLE

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING ISSUED TO ADVISE DEALERS OF THE CORRECT DIAGNOSTIC AND WARRANTY POLICY PROCEDURES FOR REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) SYSTEM. THE PROCEDURES OUTLINED IN THIS BULLETIN MUST BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF WARRANTY CLAIMS. THE FOLLOWING CLAIMS ARE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY .

PROCEDURE:

IF THE CUSTOMER COMMENTS THAT THE REMOTE TRANSMITTER IS NOT WORKING, PRESS ALL FOUR TRANSMITTER BUTTONS ONE AT A TIME:

- IF ONLY THE FUEL DOOR (CADILLAC) PANIC BUTTON (ALL OTHER VEHICLES) WORKS, THE TRANSMITTER IS OUT OF SYNCHRONIZATION. DO NOT REPLACE ANY COMPONENTS. RE-SYNCHRONIZE THE TRANSMITTER BY STANDING NEXT TO THE VEHICLE, THEN PRESS AND HOLD BOTH LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS. THE TRANSMITTER WILL SIGNAL THAT IT IS SYNCHRONIZED BY CYCLING THE DOOR LOCK MECHANISM. THE TRANSMITTER SHOULD NOW WORK PROPERLY.

- IF NONE OF THE BUTTONS ARE WORKING, PERFORM THE TRANSMITTER TEST USING THE J 43241 TESTER PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN CORPORATE BULLETIN 83-90-12.

- IF THE TRANSMITTER DOES NOT PASS THE J 43241 TEST, REPLACE THE TRANSMITTER. THE NEW TRANSMITTER SHOULD READ GM/UTA ON THE FIRST LINE ON THE BACK OF THE TRANSMITTER. NON-UTA TRANSMITTERS WILL NOT PROGRAM OR WILL BE INOPERATIVE.

- IF THE TRANSMITTER PASSES THE TEST, PROGRAM THE REMOTE TRANSMITTER FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURES IN THE KEYLESS ENTRY SUB-SECTION OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. WHEN THE SYSTEM IS PROGRAMMED CORRECTLY, THE DOOR LOCKS WILL CYCLE.

- IF THE SYSTEM IS PROGRAMMED SUCCESSFULLY, CHECK OPERATION AND RANGE. IF THE RKE SYSTEM OPERATES CORRECTLY AND THE RANGE IS NORMAL, THE REPAIR IS COMPLETE.

- IF THE RKE SYSTEM OPERATES CORRECTLY, BUT THE RANGE IS POOR, REMOVE THE ROAD SENSING SUSPENSION (RSS) OR CONTINUOUS VARIABLE ROAD SENSING SUSPENSION (CVRSS) - (CADILLAC ONLY) FUSE. IF THE RANGE IMPROVES, REPLACE THE RSS/CVRSS MODULE. IF THE RANGE DOES NOT IMPROVE, REPLACE THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATION MODULE/REMOTE DOOR REAR COMPARTMENT RECEIVER.

- IF THE RKE SYSTEM OPERATES CORRECTLY AND THE CONCERN IS ALL DOORS DO NOT ALWAYS UNLOCK, LOCK ALL THE DOORS AND THEN PRESS THE UNLOCK BUTTON TWICE, PAUSING TWO SECONDS BETWEEN PRESSES. REPEAT THIS SEVERAL TIMES. IF ALL THE DOORS CONSTANTLY UNLOCK, INSTRUCT THE CUSTOMER THAT A 1-2 SECOND PAUSE IS NEEDED BETWEEN UNLOCK BUTTON PRESSES. IF ALL THE DOORS DO NOT CONSISTENTLY UNLOCK, REPLACE THE TRANSMITTER. THERE NEEDS TO BE A PAUSE BETWEEN THE BUTTON PRESSES BEFORE THE RECEIVER RECOGNIZES THE SECOND SIGNAL.

- IF THE SYTEM DID NOT PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY AND THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATION CAN COMMUNICATE WITH THE TECH II, THEN MAKE SURE THE KEY IS IN THE "ON" POSITION (ENGINE NOT RUNNING) AND TRY TO PROGRAM AGAIN. IF THE SYSTEM STILL DOES NOT PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY, REPLACE THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATION MODULE/REMOTE DOOR REAR COMPARTMENT RECEIVER.

- IF THE SYSTEM DID NOT PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY AND THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATION CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE TECH II, THEN CHECK THE RFA CONNECTOR (POWER, GROUND AND CLASS II LINE). IF THEY CHECK "OK", THEN REPLACE THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATION MODULE/REMOTE DOOR REAR COMPARTMENT RECEIVER.

THE FOLLOWING CLAIMS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY

- TRANSMITTER REPLACEMENT WHEN ALL BUTTONS WORK, USING J 43241 TESTER OUTLINED IN CORPORATE BULLETIN 83-90-12.

- PERSONALIZATION PROGRAMMING THROUGH DIC OR TECH II.

- LOST TRANSMITTER REPROGRAMMING.

- USED CAR TRADE-IN REPROGRAMMING.

- TRANSMITTER DAMAGE DUE TO MISUSE.

- GARAGE DOOR OPENER PROGRAMMING.
