SERV. MAN. UPDATE-SEC. 8A-ELEC DIAG.-CELL CHECK OIL INDICATOR

SUBJECT: SECTION 8A ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS - CELL 80 ANALOG CLUSTER CHECK OIL INDICATOR

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "H" MODEL

The CHECK OIL INDICATOR TEST found in the 1992 H model service manuals has been revised to avoid any confusion and misdiagnosis.

The following revised text should be replaced for proper system diagnosis:

1992 OLDSMOBILE EIGHTY-EIGHT, Page 8A-80-15

The text which states: If the ignition has been off for more than 20 minutes, but less than 8 minutes, the oil level module will ignore the low oil level sensor and perform a bulb check only.

Should be replaced with: If the ignition has been off for more than 20 seconds, but less than 8 minutes, the oil level module will ignore the low oil level sensor and perform a bulb check only.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
