INOPERATIVE 3RD SEAT RELEASE- NEW AND IMPROVED REPAIR PARTS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1977-86 "B" WAGONS

Some 1977 thru 1986 'B' station wagons are being returned to dealers because of an inoperative 3rd seat back release system.

This condition may be caused by the seat back release cable becoming disengaged from the release handle or the release handle breaking because of high operating efforts.

When repairing vehicles with this condition, new improved parts are available through the Parts Department. The new parts that make up the seat back release system can not be used with parts from the original system. Therefore when required, parts from the original system must be completely replaced with new parts. To determine if a system is of the new type, inspect the end of the cable assembly that attaches to the new release handle. A cable that is part of the new system will have an opening that engages the release handle. See illustration.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
