MECHANICAL SPEEDOMETER EXCHANGE INFORMATION

MODELS/YEARS: 1988 MODELS

OLDSMOBILE POLICY

Mechanical speedometers are warranted under the "New Car Limited Warranty". Units requiring repair during the warranty period must be sent to an authorized AC-Delco Speedometer Service Center.

EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Many AC-Delco Service Centers offer an exchange program for 1988 speedometers in need of repair. However, prior approval of the owner to accept a repaired unit must be obtained and noted on the repair order. The program is very helpful in reducing customer inconvenience.

Participation in the exchange program is voluntary on the part of the AC-Delco Service Center; therefore, all centers do not offer this service. Dealers should check with their AC-Delco Service Center to see if the exchange program is available and if the specific speedometer required is available.

PROCEDURE

Whether repairing or obtaining an exchange unit, dealers should never refer the owner to the AC-Delco Service Center, but should handle the transaction for the owner as follows:

- Remove the unit to be repaired from the car, complete all red shaded areas of the Warranty Repair Claim (ACD 1078 A) and send the unit and all five (5) copies of the completed form to the authorized AC-Delco Service/Exchange Center in your area. The information MUST be typewritten on the ACD 1078 A form.

IMPORTANT: SPEEDOMETERS MUST BE ASSEMBLED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE EXCHANGE PROGRAM WHEN AVAILABLE. THE DEALER REQUESTING THE EXCHANGE WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANY MISSING AND/OR DAMAGED PARTS.

- The repaired or exchanged speedometer will be returned to your dealership for installation in the owner's vehicle.

NOTICE: For details about the servicing of odometers, refer to the current Oldsmobile Service Policies and Procedures Manual.

OLDSMOBILE WARRANTY CLAIM

The repaired speedometer will be returned with the dealer's copy of the AC-Delco form, properly completed. An Oldsmobile Warranty Claim is to be submitted for the R&R of the unit along with the freight charges. The dealer copy of the ACD 1078 A and the freight receipt or shipping invoice are to be retained in accordance with requirements detailed in the current Oldsmobile Service Policies and Procedures Manual.

If the repair is done by the dealer, or sublet to a non-AC-Delco service station, credit will be allowed on an Oldsmobile Warranty Claim. Allowances for such repairs are included in the Labor Time Guide. Sublet repair charges should be included on the claim and the sublet bill retained in the usual manner.

An additional 0.2 hour sublet administrative allowance will be paid when units are repaired under warranty by an AC-Delco Speedometer Service Center or another qualified service outlet. This additional time should be added to the published time allowance in the Labor Time Guide and entered in the "labor hours" column of the Oldsmobile Warranty Claim form.

NOTICE: The electronic cruise control system is to be serviced using 1988 Oldsmobile service manual procedures and is not to be sent to AC-Delco Service Centers.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
