Important: A short to ground will cause open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, Inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

1. Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
2. Remove the F/P INJ Fuse.
3. Measure voltage across the battery terminals with a DMM while attempting to crank the engine.

Is voltage measured within the specified range?

9.6 V or Greater

Go to Step 2

Refer to Battery Load Test

Measure voltage drop with a DMM between the negative battery terminal and the engine block while attempting to crank the engine.

Is the voltage drop within the specified range?

0.5 V or Less

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Measure voltage between the positive battery terminal and the starter solenoid terminal B while attempting to crank the engine.

Is voltage measured within the specified range?

0.5 V or Less

Refer to Starter Motor Replacement

Go to Step 5

Clean the terminals or replace the negative battery cable refer to Battery Cable between the battery and the engine block.

Is repair complete?

Clean the terminals or replace the positive battery cable refer to Battery Cable between the battery and the starter motor.

Is repair complete?

System OK

--
