Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 338441  Size: SH
  3. Remove the drive belt idler pulley bolt.
  4. Remove the drive belt idler pulley.

  5. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Support the engine assembly with a suitable jack.
  9. Remove the nut securing the engine mount to the engine mount bracket.

  10. Object Number: 911558  Size: SH
  11. Remove the nut (2) securing the power steering hose to the engine mount bracket (1).
  12. Remove the bolts (3) securing the engine mount bracket (1) to the engine.
  13. Loosen the remaining engine mount bracket bolt (4), enough to allow access to the engine front cover.
  14. Position aside the engine mount bracket (1).

  16. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  17. Remove the engine front cover and gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard unless it is damaged.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 315123  Size: SH
  1. Place a small amount of sealant GM P/N 12345739 (Canadian P/N 10953541) or equivalent at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1).

  2. Object Number: 315077  Size: SH
  3. Place the engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
  4. Place the engine front cover in position on the crankcase.
  5. Install the engine front cover retaining bolts.

  6. Object Number: 315109  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts in proper sequence to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 911558  Size: SH
  11. Install the bolts (3) securing the engine mount bracket (1) to the engine.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts (3, 4) to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  13. Install the nut (2) securing the power steering hose to the engine mount bracket (1).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  15. Install the nut securing the engine mount to the engine mount bracket.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the mount nut to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  17. Remove the engine support jack.
  18. Lower the vehicle.

  19. Object Number: 338441  Size: SH
  20. Install the drive belt idler pulley.
  21. Install the drive belt idler pulley bolt.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  23. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
