Did you perform the Instrument Cluster System Check?

  1. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connector C1.
  2. Connect the J 33431-C signal generator IP tester to the PCM connector C1 terminal 55.
  3. Connect the J 33431-C ground terminal to a good chassis ground.
  4. Set the J 33431-C to 110 mph.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the speedometer read the specified speed?

110 mph

Go to Step 6

Inspect CKT 817 for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage.

Is the wiring OK?

--

Go to Step 5

Repair the wiring.

Is the repair complete?

--

Inspect for a poor connection at the instrument cluster vehicle speed input terminal.

Is the connection OK?

Go to Step 7

Inspect for a poor connection at the PCM connector C1 terminal 13.

Is the connection OK?

Service the instrument cluster.

Is the repair complete?

  2. Connect the J 33431-C signal generator IP tester to the PCM connector C2 terminal 25.
  3. Connect the J 33431-C ground terminal to a good chassis ground.
  4. Set the J 33431-C to 110 mph.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the speedometer read the specified speed?
