The 3.8L (L36 & L67) centrifugal-type coolant pump consists of the following components:

    • An impeller
    • An impeller drive shaft
    • A pulley flange
    • A stamped steel housing

The back side of the serpentine drive belt drives the coolant pump pulley. The pulley attaches to the pump.

The 4.0L (L47) coolant pump draws coolant from the radiator and passes the coolant through the thermostat and then into the engine block. The coolant pump housing includes a cast crossover pipe that returns the coolant exiting the engine block to the radiator and the pump.
