1. With a scan tool select the instrument panel cluster inputs.
2. Monitor the gear range status.
3. Move the gear lever through each gear.

Does the scan tool display the correct gear selected?

Go to Step 3

1. With the scan tool select powertrain, data display, transmission data display, transmission data.
2. Monitor the current gear.
3. Move the gear lever through each gear.

Does the scan tool display the correct gear selected?

Go to Step 4

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check - 2.4L or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check - 3.4L in Engine Controls

1. Inspect the gear selector linkage for proper adjustment.
2. If ok, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
