SUBJECT: RIGHT SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR OUTLET SHUT-OFF DOOR BLOWS CLOSED (WRAP HUB OF RETAINER WITH TAPE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "N" MODELS

APPLICATION:

------------ 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva

CONDITION:

---------- Some owners of 1992 "N" Achieva models may comment that the right instrument panel air outlet shut-off door blows closed when in the MAX, NORM, BI-LEVEL, or VENT mode.

CAUSE:

----- Insufficient friction in the mechanism to hold the set position.

CORRECTION:

---------- 1. Remove air outlet from instrument panel, reference attachment. 2. Remove barrel assembly from air outlet housing. 3. Remove black retainer from thumb wheel. 4. Wrap the "hub" of the retainer with a 6mm x 6mm (1/4 inch x 1/4 inch) piece of electrical tape. 5. Reinstall the retainer onto the housing. 6. Check thumb-wheel for acceptable operating effort, add more or less tape as required for proper operation. 7. Reinstall barrel assembly. 8. Reinstall air outlet assembly into instrument panel.
