INFO ON LACK OF A/C COOLING REFRIGERANT SYSTEM INOPERATIVE

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON LACK OF AIR CONDITIONING COOLING

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "N" CAR WITH 3.3L (VIN CODE N) ENGINE PONTIAC GRAND AM, OLDSMOBILE ACHIEVA, BUICK SKYLARK

MODELS/YEARS: 1992 "N" Car with 3.3L LG7 (VIN N) Engine Built within the VIN Breakpoints listed below.

A limited number of V-5 compressors were installed into these vehicles with a refrigerant oil that was designated for use with refrigerant R134a. If a customer brings a vehicle in with a lack of cooling concern, and the refrigerant system is inoperative, check to see if the VIN falls within the following VIN breakpoints:

Pontiac: NC284675 - NC286609 NM089638 - NM091116

Buick: NC653601 - NC654766

Oldsmobile: NM463080 - NM464982

If the VIN falls within the above breakpoints, look for the following information on the A/C compressor:

1. The part number on the compressor label must be 1135003 (Refer to Figure 1).

2. The build date code on the compressor label must be 061021 (Refer to figure 1).

3. The number "21" will be stamped on the mounting lug closest to the drain plug (Refer to Figure 2).

If ALL of the above conditions have been met, contact the N-car Production Plant Help Line at 1-800-225-5523 for further instructions before proceeding with any repairs.

If the vehicle and compressor information does NOT meet all of the above conditions, proceed with the normal system diagnostics as outlined in SECTION 1B of the service manual.

Use applicable labour operations and times per the repairs instructed by the N-Car Production Plant Help Line.
