INADVERTENT DOOR LOCK & TRUNK ACTUATION (REPLACE RECEIVER)

SUBJECT: INADVERTENT DOOR LOCK AND TRUNK ACTUATION - REPLACE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) RECEIVER

MODELS/YEARS: 1992 ACHIEVA

CONDITION: Some 1992 Achieves built prior to vehicle number NM408124 with option AX3 (Remote Keyless Entry) may exhibit unwanted cycling of door lock and/or inadvertent trunk opening.

CAUSE: The microprocessor in the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) receiver may become scrambled by a high voltage spike generated by the mini-wedge lock motors. If the Remote Keyless Entry receiver becomes scrambled, it may go into a reset process that causes a "Lock" "Unlock" Door and Trunk Cycle.

CORRECTION: Any affected vehicle which demonstrates the above condition should have the receiver replaced with a new receiver P/N 22584554 (currently available from GMSPO). Refer to Section 9K of the applicable Service Manual for proper replacement procedure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
