DESIGN TO DOOR RELATIONSHIP (DESIGN EXPLANATION)

SUBJECT: INFORMATION CONCERNING DESIGN INTENT OF THE DOOR TO ROOF RELATIONSHIP

MODELS/YEARS: 1992 ACHIEVA

This bulletin has been issued to discourage refit of a correct condition.

There is concern that some dealers are re-working doors on 1992 Achievas in order to achieve a flush condition to the roof. As shown in the illustration below, a flush condition is not design intent.

The door to roof and auxillary seal appearance has been implemented to improve wind noise performance of an aircraft style door design. It is mandatory that these seal gaps be maintained. This design also creates an integral rain gutter between the door, roof and auxiliary seal to flow water rearward and down the back. It prevents water from draining on to the customer when entering and exiting the vehicle in the rain.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
