Camshaft Removal L98, LS2


    Object Number: 1954161  Size: SH
  1. Rotate the engine in order to align the timing marks (1, 2).

  2. Object Number: 1954214  Size: SH
  3. Remove the camshaft sprocket to camshaft retaining bolt (1).
  4. Remove the timing chain (3), from the camshaft sprocket (2), and allow the timing chain (3) to rest on the crankshaft sprocket (2).

  5. Object Number: 1950817  Size: SH
  6. Remove the camshaft retainer to cylinder block retaining bolts (1) and remove the camshaft retainer (2).

  7. Object Number: 1950823  Size: SH

    Important: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft (2) to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

  8. Remove the camshaft (2).
  9. 5.1. Install M8 -1.25 x 100 mm ( M8 -1.25 x 4.0 in) bolts (1) in the front of the camshaft (2).
    5.2. Using the bolts (1) as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft (2) out of the cylinder block (3).
    5.3. Remove the bolts (1) from the camshaft (3).
  10. If required, clean and inspect the camshaft (3) and bearings. Refer to Camshaft and Bearings Cleaning and Inspection.

  1. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts (204) and retainer (203).

  2. Object Number: 1704626  Size: SH

    Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

  3. Remove the camshaft.
  4. 2.1. Install the camshaft sprocket bolt into the camshaft front bolt hole.
    2.2. Using the bolt as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft out of the engine block.
    2.3. Remove the bolt from the front of the camshaft.
