Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Ignition ON, engine OFF.
  2. Operate the Wiper/Washer switch through all the switch positions.

Does the windshield Wiper/Washer system operate normally?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Are the wipers inoperative in the low speed mode?

--

Go to Step 15

Are the wipers inoperative in the high speed mode?

--

Go to Step 6

  1. Ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the Wiper/Washer switch.
  3. Ignition ON, engine OFF.
  4. Operate the Wiper/Washer switch to the INT switch position.
  5. Measure the resistance of the Wiper/Washer switch from the wiper signal circuit to the return circuit.

Is the resistance for the INT switch position within the specified range?

INT 700-4000 Ω

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References.

Replace the Wiper/Washer switch. Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.

  1. Remove the front wiper high  relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the voltage supply circuit to the ground circuit of the wiper  relay coil.
  3. Place the Wiper/Washer switch in the High speed position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Go to Step 13

Connect a test lamp from the supply voltage circuit of the front wiper high relay coil to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Go to Step 8

Repair an open or high resistance in the battery voltage circuit of the front wiper high relay switched input. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs.

Measure the resistance of the front windshield wiper switch high signal circuit between the underhood body electrical centre (UBEC) and the body control module (BCM).

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Continuity

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 9

Repair an open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the inoperative wiper relay coil. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs.

Did you correct the condition?

--

System OK

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References

  1. Ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the Wiper/Washer switch.
  3. Ignition ON, engine OFF.
  4. Operate the Wiper/Washer switch to the HIGH switch position.
  5. Measure the resistance of the Wiper/Washer switch from the wiper signal circuit to the return circuit.

Is the resistance for the HIGH switch position within the specified range?

HIGH 300-350 Ω

Go to Step 11

Replace the Wiper/Washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.

Measure the resistance of the Wiper/Washer switch from the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit to the return circuit.

Is the resistance for the HIGH switch position within the specified range?

Continuity

Go to Step 12

Replace the Wiper/Washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.

Measure the resistance of the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit between the Wiper/Washer switch and the body control module (BCM).

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Continuity

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References.

Repair an open or high resistance in the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs.

Install a 30-A fusible link wire between the relay supply voltage circuit and the wiper motor high speed circuit.

Does the wiper motor activate?

--

Replace the inoperative front wiper high relay.

Go to Step 14

Test the high speed circuit of the wiper motor for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

--

System OK

Replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper System Module Replacement.

  1. Ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the Wiper/Washer switch.
  3. Ignition ON, engine OFF.
  4. Operate the Wiper/Washer switch to the LOW and INT switch position.
  5. Measure the resistance of the Wiper/Washer switch from the wiper signal circuit to the return circuit for each switch position.

Are the resistances for the INT and LOW switch positions within the specified range?

LOW 300-350 Ω

INT 700-4000 Ω

Go to Step 16

Replace the Wiper/Washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.

Measure the resistance of the windshield wiper switch low signal circuit between the Wiper/Washer switch and the body control module (BCM).

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Continuity

Go to Step 17

Repair an open or high resistance in the windshield wiper switch low signal circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs.

  1. Ignition ON, engine OFF
  2. Operate the Wiper/Washer switch to the LOW switch position.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the windshield wiper motor low speed circuit at the wiper motor to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.

Go to Step 18

Measure the resistance of the windshield wiper motor low speed circuit between the UBEC and the windshield wiper motor.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Continuity

Replace the inoperative front wiper high relay.

Go to Step 19

Repair an open or high resistance in the windshield wiper motor low speed circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs.

Did you correct the condition?

--

System OK

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References.
