Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement LHD

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
2. Remove Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement.
3. Remove the steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
4. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
5. Remove the headlamp/turn signal switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement.
6. Remove the wiper washer switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.



7. Disconnect the connectors  (1) from  (2)
8. Place some tape around the steering wheel module coil before removing from steering column.



9. Remove the SIR coil assembly to steering wheel retaining screws  (1).
10. Remove the SIR coil assembly.

Notice: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.

Important: If the existing SIR coil assembly is to be reinstalled, the SIR coil assembly must be centred.

1. Install the SIR coil assembly.



2. Connect the SIR coil assembly connector (1) .



3. Install the SIR coil assembly to steering column retaining screws (1).
4. Install the wipers/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.
5. Install the headlamp/turn signal switch from the SIR coil module assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement.
6. Install steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
8. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
10. Calibrate the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centering.

Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement RHD

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
2. Remove inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement.
3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
4. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
5. Remove the turn signal switch from the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement.
6. Remove the windshield wiper and washer switch from the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.



7. Disconnect the SIR steering wheel module coil connector  (2) from the I/P harness  (1)

Important: If the SIR coil module is to be reused, it must be re-fitted in the same position as when removed.

8. Place some tape around the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly before removing from the steering column.



9. Remove the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly to steering column retaining screws  (1).
10. Remove the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly.

Notice: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.

Important: If the existing SIR steering wheel module coil assembly is to be reinstalled, the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly must be fitted in the same position as when removed.

1. Install the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly. (If the original SIR steering wheel module coil assembly is being reused, remove the tape after installing the SIR coil module assembly.)



2. Install the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly to steering column retaining screws (1).



3. Connect the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly connector (2) to the I/P harness  (1).
4. Install the windshield wiper and washer switch to the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement.
5. Install the turn signal switch to the SIR steering wheel module coil assembly. Refer to Turn Signal Switch Replacement.
6. Install steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
8. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
10. Calibrate the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centering.
11. If re-programming is required. Refer to Control Module References.
