Battery Replacement Sportwagon

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Important: When a suitable hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  3. Install a suitable liftgate brace to the vehicle.
  4. Remove the rear compartment side trim panel access hole cover. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Panel Access Hole Cover Replacement.

  5. Object Number: 2110831  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the battery negative cable (1) from the battery (3). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  7. Disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the battery (3).

  8. Object Number: 2110832  Size: SH
  9. Remove the battery retainer strap nuts (1) from the battery retainer strap (2).
  10. Remove the battery retainer strap (2).
  11. Remove the battery retainer plate to battery tray retaining bolts (4).
  12. Remove the battery retainer plate (3) from the vehicle.

  13. Object Number: 2110833  Size: SH
  14. Pull out the battery vent hose (1) from the battery (2).
  15. Remove the battery (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2110833  Size: SH
  1. Install the battery (2) to the vehicle.
  2. Push in the battery vent hose (1) to the battery (2).

  3. Object Number: 2110832  Size: SH
  4. Install the battery retainer plate (3) to the vehicle.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the battery retainer plate to battery tray retaining bolts (4).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  8. Install the battery retainer strap (2).
  9. Install the battery retainer strap nuts (1) to the battery retainer strap (2).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  11. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the battery (3).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  13. Connect the battery negative cable (1) to the battery (3). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Install the rear compartment side trim panel access hole cover. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Panel Access Hole Cover Replacement.
  16. Important: When a suitable hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  17. Remove the suitable liftgate brace from the vehicle.
  18. Close the liftgate.

Battery Replacement Sedan

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the cargo area centre carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement
  2. Remove the left-hand side cargo area trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Panel Replacement

  3. Object Number: 1949822  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the battery negative cable (1) from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  5. Disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the battery.

  6. Object Number: 1949837  Size: SH
  7. Remove the battery retainer strap nut (1) from the battery retainer.
  8. Remove the battery retainer plate (2) from the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 1949878  Size: SH
  10. Detach the battery vent hose (1) from the battery (2).
  11. Remove the battery (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery (2) to the vehicle.
  2. Attach the battery vent hose (1) to the battery (2).
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1949837  Size: SH
  4. Install the battery retainer plate (2), locate the retainer strap to the retainer plate and install the battery retainer strap nut (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  6. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the battery.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  8. Connect the battery negative cable (1). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  10. Install the cargo area centre carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Panel Replacement
  11. Instal the left-hand side cargo area trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement
  12. Close rear compartment lid.
