CH-49405 Ball Joint Release Tool.

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  3. Object Number: 1949926  Size: SH

    Important: Nuts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

  4. Remove the stabiliser bar link to stabiliser bar retaining nut (1) from both sides of the stabiliser bar.
  5. Discard the nuts.

  6. Disconnect the stabiliser bar link (2) from the stabiliser bar (3) from both sides of the stabiliser bar.

    Important: Nuts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

  8. Remove the tie rod end ball joint to steering knuckle retaining nut (1) on both sides of the vehicle.
  9. Discard the nuts.

    Important: Once a load is applied by the ball joint release tool loading bolt, a quick tap on the nut end of the tool will reduce the separating force required.

  10. Disconnect the tie rod (3) from the steering knuckle (2) using the CH-49405 (1) on both sides of the vehicle.
  11. Remove the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor/Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement for 3.6L engine or Mass Airflow Sensor/Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement for 6.0L engine.
  12. Remove the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for 3.6L engine or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for 6.0L engine.

  14. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (2).
  15. Remove the power steering gear outlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  16. Remove the stabliser bar insulators from the stabiliser bar. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement.
  17. Remove the stabiliser bar from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: If installing a replacement stabiliser bar, check that the stabiliser bar is the correct type for the suspension system fitted to the vehicle. Identification of the stabiliser bar fitted to a particular vehicle can be achieved by cross-referencing the two digit code provided on the production identification tag with the data in Fastener Tightening Specifications. Fitting the wrong stabiliser bar may adversely affect the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle.

  1. Install the stabiliser bar to the vehicle.
  2. Install the stabiliser bar insulators. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement.
  3. Install the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor/Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement for 3.6L engine or Mass Airflow Sensor/Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement for 6.0L engine.
  4. Install the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for 3.6L engine or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for 6.0L engine.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Remove the power steering gear outlet pipe/hose bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb ft).

  10. Install the stabiliser bar link (2) to the stabiliser bar (3) to both sides of the vehicle.
  11. Install the NEW stabiliser bar link to stabiliser bar retaining nut (1) to both sides of the vehicle.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  13. Install the tie rod (3) to the steering knuckle (2) on both sides of the vehicle.
  14. Install the NEW tie rod to steering knuckle retaining nut (1) on both sides of the vehicle.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  16. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  17. Remove the safety stands.
  18. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
