Power Steering Pump Replacement 6.0L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  2. Remove the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement.
  3. Remove the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  4. Remove the power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory.
  5. Place a large suitable container under the vehicle in order to collect draining power steering fluid.

  6. Object Number: 1957090  Size: SH

    Important: The power steering gear inlet pipe (5) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

    Important: The copper sealing washers (6 and 8) must be discarded after removal.

  7. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (3) and copper sealing washers (6 and 8).
  8. Plug the power steering gear inlet pipe (5).

    Discard the washers.

  9. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet pipe (5) from the power steering pump (2).
  10. Release the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose spring clamp (7).
  11. Important:  The power steering power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose (4) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

  12. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose (4) from the power steering pump (2).
  13. Plug the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose (4).

    Important: Bolts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

  14. Remove the power steering pump to power steering pump bracket retaining bolts (9).
  15. Discard the bolts.

  16. Remove the power steering pump (2) from the power steering pump bracket (1).
  17. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pulley to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 1957090  Size: SH
  3. Install the power steering pump (2) to the power steering pump bracket (1).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the NEW power steering pump to power steering pump bracket retaining bolts (9).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Remove the plug from the power steering gear inlet pipe (5).
  8. Connect the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose (5) to the power steering pump (2).
  9. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (3) and NEW copper sealing washers (6 and 8).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  11. Remove the plug from the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose (4).
  12. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose (4) to the power steering pump (2).
  13. Tighten the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose spring clamp (7).
  14. Install the power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory.
  15. Install the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement.
  16. Install the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  17. Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

  18. Fill power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to FULL level mark on the fluid reservoir.
  19. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
  20. Check for power steering fluid leaks.
  21. Remove the container from under the vehicle.
  22. Install the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.

Power Steering Pump Replacement 3.6L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  3. Remove the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  4. Remove the power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  5. Place a large suitable container under the vehicle in order to collect draining power steering fluid.

  6. Object Number: 1957090  Size: SH

    Important: The copper sealing washers (6 and 8) must be discarded after removal.

  7. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (3) and copper sealing washers (6 and 8).
  8. Discard the washers.

  9. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet pipe (5) from the power steering pump (2).
  10. Important: The power steering gear inlet pipe/hose (5) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

  11. Plug the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose (5).
  12. Release the power steering fluid reservoir outlet pipe/hose spring clamp (7).
  13. Important:  The power steering power steering fluid reservoir outlet pipe/hose (4) must be plugged to prevent the entry of foreign particles into the power steering system.

  14. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet pipe/hose (4) from the power steering pump (2).
  15. Plug the power steering fluid reservoir outlet pipe/hose (4).
  16. Important: Bolts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

  17. Remove the power steering pump to power steering pump bracket retaining bolts (9).
  18. Discard the bolts.

  19. Remove the power steering pump (2) from the power steering pump bracket (1).
  20. Remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pulley to the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 1957090  Size: SH
  3. Position the power steering pump (2) to the power steering pump bracket (1).
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the NEW power steering pump to power steering pump bracket retaining bolts (9).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Remove the plug from the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose (5).
  8. Connect the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose (5) to the power steering pump (2).
  9. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe to power steering pump retaining banjo bolt (3) and NEW copper sealing washers (6 and 8).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the banjo bolt to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  11. Remove the plug from the power steering fluid reservoir outlet pipe/hose (4).
  12. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet pipe/hose (4) to the power steering pump (2).
  13. Tighten the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose spring clamp (7).
  14. Install the power steering drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  15. Install the upper section of the air box. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  16. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  17. Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

  18. Fill power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to FULL level mark on the fluid reservoir.
  19. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
  20. Check for power steering fluid leaks.
  21. Remove the container from under the vehicle.
  22. Install the engine dress cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
