Diagnostic Instructions

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B1015-VIN Information Error

Circuit Description

The theft deterrent module compares its stored VIN value to the platforms body module that houses the vehicle identification number, if the values do not match this DTC sets.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The VIN check flag of the theft deterrent control module is true.
    • The theft deterrent control module has determined that the battery has been reconnected after a disconnect.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The vehicle will not start.
    • The theft deterrent control module sends the fuel disable message via the serial data circuit to the ECM.
    • The theft deterrent control module will run the VIN Timer for a programmable length of time, typically 10 minutes.
    • The theft deterrent control module sends a message to BCM to illuminate the SECURITY indicator.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The theft deterrent control module clears the current DTC when the correct VIN information is present.
    • The DTC can be cleared by using a scan tool.
