Exhaust Muffler Replacement 2.4L

1. Remove the nuts and the gaskets from both resonator pipe flanges-to-front muffler pipe flanges.



2. Detach both resonator assemblies from the rubber hangers.
3. Remove both resonators.
4. Check the rear resonator and the pipe for holes, damage, open seams and other deterioration which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the passenger compartment or the trunk.

1. Secure both rear resonator assemblies to the rubber hangers.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




2. Install the nuts and the gaskets to both rear resonator pipe flanges-to-front muffler pipe flanges.

Tighten
Tighten the front muffler-to-rear resonator nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

Exhaust Muffler Replacement 2.0L Diesel

Caution: In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.

Notice: When inspecting or replacing exhaust system components, make sure there is adequate clearance from all points on the underbody to prevent overheating of the floor pan and possible damage to the passenger compartment insulation and trim materials.

1. Remove the nuts and the gaskets from the both rear muffler pipe flange-to-front muffler pipe flange.



2. Detach the both rear muffler assembly from the rubber hangers.
3. Remove the both rear muffler.
4. Check the rear muffler and the pipe for holes, damage, open seams and other deterioration which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the passenger compartment or the trunk.

1. Secure the both rear muffler assembly to the rubber hangers.

2. Install the nuts and the gaskets to the both rear muffler pipe flange-to-front muffler pipe flange.

Tighten
Tighten the front muffler-to-rear muffler nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

Exhaust Muffler Replacement 3.2L

1. Remove the nuts and the gaskets from the rear muffler pipe flange-to-front muffler pipe flange.



2. Detach the rear muffler assembly from the rubber hangers.
3. Remove the rear muffler.
4. Check the rear muffler and the pipe for holes, damage, open seams or other deterioration which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the passenger compartment or the trunk.

1. Secure the rear muffler assembly to the rubber hangers.

2. Install the nuts and the gaskets to the rear muffler pipe flange-to-front muffler pipe flange.

Tighten
Tighten the front muffler-to-rear muffler nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
