SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE-SEC. 7A AUTOMATIC TCM REPLACEMENT

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 7A AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE CONTROL MODULE (TCM) REPLACEMENT

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989-91 "M" MODEL

APPLICATION:

1989-91 Chevrolet Sprint and Pontiac Firefly

This bulletin is an amendment to Section 7A of the 1989-91 Geo Metro Service Manuals (ST370-89, ST370-90 and ST370-91 respectively). Refer to this bulletin for information concerning Transaxle Control Module (TCM) replacement procedures on 1989-91 Sprint/Firefly vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles.

ON-VEHICLE SERVICE

Transaxle Control Module (TCM)

Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative (-) battery cable.

2. Two electrical connectors from TCM.

3. Two bolts and TCM from underneath right side of steering column (Figure 1).

Install or Connect

1. TCM underneath right side of steering column; secure with two bolts (Figure 1).

TIGHTEN o TCM bolts to 15 N.m (1 1 lb.ft.).

2. Two electrical connectors to TCM.

3. Negative (-) battery cable.

TIGHTEN Negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 N.m (11 lb.ft.).
