Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side with RPO NYS

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  4. Remove the park brake cable from the equalizer by pulling down on the intermediate cable and release the cable from the equalizer bar.

  5. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  6. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  7. Object Number: 791351  Size: SH
  8. Remove the cable at the lower shock absorber mount by removing the bolt.

  9. Object Number: 791353  Size: SH
  10. Remove the rear cable mounting bracket bolt.

  11. Object Number: 791352  Size: SH
  12. Remove the cable from the lever.

  13. Object Number: 791822  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cable (2) from the rear brake cable mounting bracket (3) by depressing the locking tabs (1) on the brake cable.

  15. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  16. Remove the cable from the guides and the body mounts.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 791822  Size: SH
  1. Install the new brake cable (2) into the rear brake cable mounting bracket (3) by pushing the cable into place until the locking tabs (1) snap into place.

  2. Object Number: 791352  Size: SH
  3. Install the park brake cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 791353  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the rear park brake cable bracket bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear park brake cable bracket bolt to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  7. Install the park brake cable and the bolt to the lower shock absorber mount.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake cable bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the park brake cable taking care to correctly route the cable though the guides and the body mounts.

  10. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  11. Install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar.
  12. Remove the safety stands.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side without RPO NYS

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1471613  Size: SH
  1. Ensure that the park brake is released.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the first design cable, perform the following:
  4. 3.1. Relieve tension on the park brake cables by pulling down on the front park brake cable (1) just in front of the equalizer.
    3.2. Remove the left rear park brake cable (3) from the equalizer bar.
    3.3. Remove the park brake cable from the frame bracket and guides.

  5. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the second design or a 2500 series, relieve the tension from the park brake cable by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and removing the cable from the equalizer bar.

  6. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  7. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  8. Object Number: 555965  Size: SH
  9. Remove the cable at the shock absorber bracket by removing the bolt.

  10. Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cable from the lever (25 series).
  12. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  13. Remove the cable.

  14. Object Number: 555746  Size: SH
  15. Remove the cable from the lever (15 series).
  16. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  17. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 555746  Size: SH
  1. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  2. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place (15 series).
  3. Install the cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  5. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  6. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place (25 series).
  7. Install the cable to the lever.

  8. Object Number: 555965  Size: SH

  9. Install the cable at the shock absorber bracket and install the bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  11. Install the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

  12. Object Number: 791349  Size: SH
  13. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the second design or a 2500 series, install the park brake cable to the equalizer bar by pulling down on the cable in front of the equalizer and installing the cable to the equalizer bar.

  14. Object Number: 1471613  Size: SH
  15. If vehicle is a 1500 series with the first design cable, perform the following:
  16. 10.1. Install the park brake cable through the frame bracket and guides.
    10.2. Install the left rear park brake cable (3) from the equalizer bar.
  17. Remove the safety stands.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
