    •  J 29193 Steering Linkage Installer (12 mm)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 340952  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the differential carrier shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
  3. Important: Use the proper tool in order to separate the ball stud.

  4. Remove the steering damper ball stud nut (1).
  5. Do not reuse the nut.

  6. Remove the steering damper ball stud from the relay rod using the J 6627-A .

  7. Object Number: 340952  Size: SH
  8. Remove the steering damper mounting bolt (5) and the nut (6).
  9. Do not reuse the nut.

  10. Remove the steering damper (4) from the vehicle.
  11. Inspect the following parts:
  12. • The steering damper for leaks and damage
    • The mounting bolts and the nuts for damage or corrosion

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering damper (4).
  2. Install the mounting bolt (5) and a new prevailing torque nut (6).
  3. Install the steering damper ball stud (2) to the relay rod (3).
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the J 29193 .
  6. Tighten the steering linkage installer in order to seat the ball stud in the relay rod.

    Tighten
    Tighten the steering linkage installer to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).

  7. Remove the J 29193 .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the prevailing ball stud nut (1).
  10. Tighten

        • Tighten the mounting nut (6) to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
        • Tighten the ball stud nut (1) to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).
  11. Install the differential carrier shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
