The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment that when a door is closed or when driving at highway speeds, if the door glass is rolled up, the top of the glass will pop out of the run channel.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If you experience this concern, please follow one of the repair procedures below:

  1. Pull back the rear portion of the weatherstrip on the effected door.
  2. Inspect the door skin pinch flange where the rear weatherstrip is located.
  3. If the door skin pinch flange is even ( Refer to the arrow in the Photo below) with no metal overlapping, follow procedure A below.

  4. Object Number: 1867148 Size: SH
  5. If the door skin pinch flange is uneven (Refer to the arrow in the Photo below) with the inner door skin protruding past the outer skin, follow procedure B below.

  6. Object Number: 1867152 Size: SH

Procedure A:

To correct this concern, loosen the two window clamp bolts on the regulator. Adjust the door glass rearward further into the rear run channel. Re-tighten the two window clamp bolts to 12 N·m (9 lb ft). ( Note: If the concern still continues after performing procedure A, please follow procedure B )

Procedure B:

  1. Adjust the door glass for even contact on the weatherstrip on both the A and B pillars, ensuring the glass is parallel with the top of the door and weatherstrip
  2. Obtain locally, closed cell foam tape 1/4 inch thick by 3/8 of a inch wide and approximately 20 inches in length. ( For our example, we used Sponge rubber weatherstrip supplied by ACE hardware. )
  3. Install a strip of the closed cell foam tape, approx. 20" in length, on the weatherstrip tapering the top slightly for an even appearance. This was applied between the 2 pieces of foam on the weatherstrip from the factory. ( Refer to the arrows in the Photo below)

  4. Object Number: 1867153 Size: SH
  5. Re-Install the weatherstrip back on the door skin pinch flange. With the window rolled down there should be a ¼" gap between the weatherstrip and door frame, and flush with the window rolled up. This causes more inward pressure on the door glass, and retains the glass in the weatherstrip more securely.

To correct this concern, loosen the two window clamp bolts on the regulator. Adjust the door glass rearward further into the rear run channel. Re-tighten the two window clamp bolts to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
