Removal Procedure

Important: This procedure is for 2-wheel drive (2WD) vehicles only. If the vehicle is equipped with 4-wheel drive (4WD), the output speed sensor is located on the transfer case.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Disconnect the output speed sensor (2) electrical connector.

  3. Object Number: 686957  Size: SH
  4. Remove the output speed sensor bolt.
  5. Remove the output speed sensor (2).
  6. Inspect the output speed sensor (2) for any evidence of damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the output speed sensor seal with automatic transmission fluid.
  2. Install the output speed sensor (2).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the output speed sensor bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (96 lb in).

  6. Connect the output speed sensor (2) electrical connector.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
