The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may state that the Driver Information Center (DIC) displays a message that reads "Rear Access Open" when the Liftgate and the Lift glass is actually closed.

Recommendation/Instructions:

There are two circuits that can cause the "Rear Access Open" message on the DIC. Circuit 1303 and Circuit 5926. Both circuits have a 12 volt reference signal that is pulled low when the liftgate or liftglass are in the open position. If a concern is present, check each circuit for 12 volts with a DVOM. Then check the effected circuit for a short to ground or a faulty switch. To review the wiring for circuit 1303, please access SI Document ID # 1706606.

Circuit 5926 is only available on the non-powered liftgate (RPO E52 without RPO E61) and diagnostics for this message are not currently in SI and are in the process of being updated. If the concern is found with circuit 5926, check the light green wire that runs from pin 22 of connector C6 of the BCM to pin 4 of the liftgate latch. You may also disconnect the liftgate latch connector to see if the concern is isolated to the latch or a wiring concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
