Removal Procedure

Notice: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.

  1. Drain the cooling system to a level below the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector (3).

  3. Object Number: 858201  Size: SH
  4. Remove the ECT sensor electrical connector from the oil fill tube bracket.

  5. Object Number: 858203  Size: SH
  6. Remove the ECT sensor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 858203  Size: SH
  1. If installing the old sensor, coat the threads with sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the ECT sensor.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the sensor to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the ECT sensor electrical connector to the oil fill tube bracket.

  6. Object Number: 750529  Size: SH
  7. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector (3).
  8. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
