Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Chassis Pickup

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 300360  Size: SH
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Clean all the fuel pipe connections and the surrounding areas before disconnecting the pipes in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
  3. Disconnect the fuel feed and return pipes (1, 2) from the fuel rail. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  4. Cap the fuel rail pipes.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the fuel pipes from the bellhousing stud clip (4).
  7. Remove the fuel pipes from the transmission bracket clip.

  9. Remove the fuel pipes from the transfer case bracket clip, 4-wheel drive only.

  10. Object Number: 303981  Size: SH
  11. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister from the vehicle. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 303903  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the chassis fuel feed and return pipes at the rear fuel feed and return pipes. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  14. Cap the rear fuel pipes.

  15. Object Number: 304560  Size: SH
  16. Note the position of the fuel pipes for aid in installation.
  17. Remove the fuel pipes from the retaining clips (1).
  18. Remove the fuel pipes.

Installation Procedure

    Important: 

       • When replacing the fuel pipes, always replace them with original equipment or parts that meet the GM specifications for those parts. The replacement pipes must have the same type of fittings as the original pipes in order to ensure the integrity of the connection.
       • DO NOT use copper or aluminum tubing to replace steel tubing. Only tubing meeting the 124-M specification or the equivalent is capable of meeting all pressure, corrosion and vibration characteristics necessary to ensure the durability standard required.

  1. Install the fuel pipes into the retaining clips (1).

  2. Object Number: 303903  Size: SH
  3. Remove the caps from the rear fuel pipes.
  4. Connect the chassis fuel feed and return pipes at the rear fuel feed and return pipes. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  5. Object Number: 303981  Size: SH
  6. Install the EVAP canister. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 300385  Size: SH
  8. Install the fuel pipes into the transfer case bracket clip, 4-wheel drive only.

  9. Object Number: 300360  Size: SH
  10. Install the fuel pipes into the transmission bracket clip.
  11. Install the fuel pipes into the bellhousing stud clip (4).
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove the caps from the fuel rail pipes.
  14. Connect the fuel feed and return pipes (1, 2) to the fuel rail.
  15. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  17. Use the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:
  18. 13.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF, for 2 seconds.
    13.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    13.3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    13.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  19. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Chassis Cab/Chassis Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief .

  4. Cap the fuel rail pipes.

  6. Remove the fuel pipes from the bellhousing stud clip (4).
  7. Remove the fuel pipes from the transmission bracket clip.

  9. Remove the fuel pipes from the transfer case bracket clip for the 4-wheel drive only.
  10. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .

  12. Note the position of the fuel pipes for aid in installation.
  13. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the fuel filter (1).
  14. Remove the fuel pipes (2) from the retaining clips.
  15. Remove the fuel pipes.

    Important:

  5. Install the fuel pipes into the transfer case bracket clip, for the 4-wheel drive only.

  6. Object Number: 300360  Size: SH
  7. Install the fuel pipes into the transmission bracket clip.
  8. Install the fuel pipes into the bellhousing stud clip (4).
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Remove the caps from the fuel rail pipes.
  11. Connect the fuel feed and return pipes (1, 2) to the fuel rail.
  12. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  14. Use the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:
  15. 12.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF, for 2 seconds.
    12.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    12.3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    12.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  16. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement - Chassis Cab/Chassis Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel tanks. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  2. Note the position of the fuel pipes for aid in installation.
  3. Remove the fuel pipes (1) from the retaining clips.
  4. Cap the fuel pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the caps from the fuel pipes.
  2. Install the fuel pipes (1) into the retaining clips.
  3. Install the fuel tanks. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
