Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) supplies a shared 5 volt reference to the brake master cylinder piston position sensor, steering angle sensor and brake master cylinder piston position sensor.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Ignition ON.
    • The ignition voltage is greater than 10 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The EBCM detects the voltage on the 5 volt reference circuit to the brake master cylinder piston position sensor, steering angle sensor and brake master cylinder piston position sensor is less than 4.8 volts or greater than 5.2 volts.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The EBCM disables the antilock brake system (ABS), traction control and the vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 40 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify DTC C0455 is not set.
  2. If DTC is set, refer to DTC C0455.
  3. Verify DTC C0277 is not set.
  4. If DTC is set, refer to DTC C0277, C120C, C129A, C129B, C129D, C129E, C12B1, or C12F8.
  5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the electronic brake control position sensor.
  6. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  7. If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
