Leaf Spring Replacement 2500

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension on the leaf springs.
  3. Remove the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement .
  4. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 348393  Size: SH
  6. Remove the U-bolt nuts.
  7. Remove the U-bolts.
  8. Remove the spring spacer.
  9. Remove the anchor plate.

  10. Object Number: 361791  Size: SH
  11. Remove the rear spring bracket nut and bolt.

  12. Object Number: 361767  Size: SH
  13. Remove the front spring bracket nut and bolt.
  14. Remove the leaf spring assembly from the vehicle.
  15. Important: The following step is for replacement the shackle only. The shackle does not have to be replaced if removing the rear leaf to service other chassis items.

  16. Remove the rear leaf spring shackle, if needed. Refer to Spring Shackle Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 361767  Size: SH
  1. Install the leaf spring assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Install the front bolt and nuts but do not tighten.
  3. Install the rear leaf spring hanger to shackle nut and bolt.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the rear leaf spring front nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear leaf spring front nut to 200 N·m (148 lb ft).

  7. Tighten the rear leaf spring hanger nut and bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the rear leaf spring mount to the shackle nut 90 N·m (70 lb ft).

    Important: Do not reuse the U-bolts.

  9. Install the spring spacer.
  10. Install the U-bolts.
  11. Install the anchor plate.
  12. Install the U-bolt nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the U-bolt nuts to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).

  14. Install the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  15. Install the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement .
  16. Remove the rear axle support.
  17. Remove the safety stands.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
