J 8062 Valve Spring Compressor - Head Off

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Compressed valve springs have high tension against the valve spring compressor. Valve springs that are not properly compressed by or released from the valve spring compressor can be ejected from the valve spring compressor with intense force. Use care when compressing or releasing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor and when removing or installing the valve stem keys. Failing to use care may cause personal injury.

    Important: Mark, sort, or organize components for return to their original locations.

  1. Use the J 8062 in order to compress the valve springs.

  2. Object Number: 1310007  Size: SH
  3. Remove the valve stem keys (220).
  4. Release and remove the J 8062 .
  5. Remove the cap (219).
  6. Remove the valve spring (218).
  7. Remove the valve stem oil seal (217) from the valve guide.
  8. Remove the valve rotator (216).
  9. Important: In order to prevent damage to the valve guide, small burrs on the valve tip and at the stem key groove that interfere with the valve removal can be lightly filed with a fine file or stone to facilitate valve removal.

  10. Remove the valve (232).

  12. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor from the bracket.
  13. Remove the ECT sensor from the cylinder head.
  14. Remove the ECT sensor bracket and bolt.

  15. Object Number: 635678  Size: SH
  16. Remove the cylinder head coolant hole plug from the cylinder head.
