GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

After a diagnostic fault is repaired, the EBCM must be reset using a magnet powerful enough to hold a 85 grams (3 oz) weight. Use the procedure described below in order to reset the EBCM.

  1. Hold the magnet against the switch on the EBCM labeled RESET.
  2. Remove the magnet from the reset switch when all of the LEDs illuminate.

The EBCM may or may not display another fault message after the reset procedure is completed. Each fault displayed must be repaired one at a time and each reset procedure will clear only the fault which is displayed prior to resetting the system. Operate the vehicle at a speed greater than 26 km/h (16 mph) in order to verify that the faults do not reset.
