Generator Bracket Replacement LG5

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Caterpillar® 3126 Unit Repair Manual.
3. Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.1L (Caterpillar) engine.



4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
5. Remove the generator bracket bolts.
6. Remove the generator bracket.

1. Install the generator bracket to the engine.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the generator bracket bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the generator bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

3. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
4. Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.1L (Caterpillar) engine.
5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Caterpillar® 3126 Unit Repair Manual.
6. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Generator Bracket Replacement L18

1. Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
3. Remove the drive belt idler pulley, if equipped. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement
4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
5. Remove the fan pulley bolts and pulley.



6. Remove the generator bracket bolts and nut.
7. Remove the generator bracket from the stud.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




1. Slide the generator bracket onto the stud.
2. Install the generator bracket bolts and nut.

Tighten
Tighten the generator bracket bolts and nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

3. Install the fan pulley and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the fan pulley bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

4. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
5. Install the drive belt idler pulley, if equipped. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement .
6. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
7. Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .

Generator Bracket Replacement 6.6L (LLY)

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
2. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
4. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
5. Remove the electrical harness clip bolts.



6. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
7. Remove the positive battery cable from the generator, perform the following:

7.1.	Slide the boot down to access the terminal stud.

7.2.	Remove the positive cable nut.

7.3.	Remove the positive cable.




8. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolt.



9. Remove the generator mounting bracket bolts.
10. Remove the generator mounting bracket.
11. If necessary, remove the idler pulleys.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




1. If necessary, install the idler pulleys.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

2. Install the generator mounting bracket.
3. Install the generator mounting bracket bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).




4. Install the drive belt tensioner bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).




5. Install the positive battery cable to the generator, perform the following:

5.1.	Install the positive cable.

5.2.	Install the positive cable nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

5.3.	Slide the boot up to cover the terminal stud.

6. Connect the generator electrical connector.



7. Install the electrical harness clip bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

8. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
9. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
10. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Generator Bracket Replacement LMM

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
2. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
4. Remove the idler pulleys. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement .
5. Remove the glow plug control module and bracket. Refer to Glow Plug Control Module Replacement .
6. Remove the fuel injection fuel feed manifold side bolts (1).
7. Reposition the fuel injection fuel feed manifold up out of the way.



8. Remove the fuel pipe bracket bolts (1) and bracket (2).



9. Remove the intake manifold tube bracket bolts and bracket.



10. Remove the generator bracket bolts and bracket.
11. Disconnect any wiring connections.

1. Connect any wiring connections.

2. Position the generator bracket and install the bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).




3. Position the intake manifold tube bracket and install the bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).




4. Position the fuel pipe bracket (2) and install the bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




5. Position the fuel injection fuel feed manifold and install the side bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

6. Install the glow plug control module and bracket. Refer to Glow Plug Control Module Replacement .
7. Install the idler pulleys. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement .
8. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
9. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
10. Install the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
