Propeller Shaft Center Support Bearing Replacement Bolt On

Tools Required

1. Block the wheels.
2. Support the propeller shaft assembly.
3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to the following procedures:

•	Two-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

•	Three-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

•	Four-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

4. Remove the universal joint from the yoke. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
5. Remove the bracket mounting bolts and nuts.
6. Remove the bracket and retainer.



7. Remove the yoke nut using the J 3453 .



8. Remove the yoke from the propeller shaft using the J 7804-A .
9. Remove the slinger.
10. Remove the grease retainer, if equipped.



11. Remove the center bearing (5).
12. Remove the grease retainer (4, 6) if equipped.
13. Remove the rubber cushion (7).
14. Remove the slinger (11) and dust shield (12), if used.
15. Clean the slingers.
16. Clean the grease retainers.
17. Clean the rubber cushion.
18. Inspect the center bearing for wear or damage.
19. Inspect the rubber cushion for cracks or distortion.
20. Inspect the slingers and grease retainers for wear or damage.

1. Install the lubricant into the grease retainers, if equipped. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .



2. Install the grease retainers (4, 6) if equipped, to the center bearing (5).
3. Install the center bearing (5) into the rubber cushion (7).
4. Install the dust shield (12), if used.
5. Install the slinger (11).
6. Install the center bearing (5) on the propeller shaft (13).
7. Install the slinger (11) on the propeller shaft (13).
8. Install the yoke (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

9. Install the yoke nut using the J 3453 .

Tighten

•	Tighten the series 1480 nut to 779 N·m (575 lb ft).

•	Tighten the series 1550 bolt to 216 N·m (160 lb ft).

•	Tighten the series 1610, 1710, 1710HD or 1760 nut to 983 N·m (725 lb ft).

10. Install the bracket (8) and the retainer (9) to the rubber cushion (7).
11. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to the following procedures:

•	Two-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

•	Three-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

•	Four-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement

12. Install the mounting bolts (10) and nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the propeller shaft hanger nuts to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).

13. Install the universal joint. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
14. Remove the wheel blocks.

Propeller Shaft Center Support Bearing Replacement Press On

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement.



3. Remove the center bearing by doing the following:

3.1.	Stand the propeller shaft (2) on end in the press (1) with the center bearing (3) supported by the press bars (4).

3.2.	Press the propeller shaft (2) down and off the center bearing (3).

1. Install the center bearing (3) onto the propeller shaft (2) by pressing the center bearing onto the shaft using a press (1).
2. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement .
3. Lower the vehicle.
