Fuel System Bleeding Without CTF

Important: The injector must be replaced as an assembly. Do not separate the injector parts. When the fuel system is open to the atmosphere, the system must be bled to remove all of the air. Air in the fuel system will cause a no start or poor engine performance.

1. Loosen the fuel feed line eye bolt (1) on the fuel filter.
2. Hand prime (3) until only fuel comes out of the eye bolt (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Tighten the fuel filter eye bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter eye bolt to 41 N·m (31 lb ft).

4. Loosen the supply pump outlet pipe sleeve nut (2).
5. Hand prime (3) until a solid stream of fuel comes out of the pipe sleeve nut (2).

Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter eye bolt (2) to 49 N·m (36 lb ft).

6. Loosen the #1 injection pipe sleeve nut (4).
7. Hand pump (3) until a solid stream of fuel comes out of the sleeve nut (4).

Repeat this on the remaining injector sleeves.

Tighten
Tighten the sleeve nut to 49 N·m (36 lb ft).

8. If equipped with cruise control, turn the ignition ON, depress the cruise set switch to open the injectors.
9. Pump the primer pump up to 60 times.

Fuel System Bleeding With CTF

1. Verify there is fuel in the fuel tank.
2. Verify the specified fuel filter is properly installed.
3. Verify the fuel lines are securely connected.
4. Verify the fuel filter is warm not hot.
5. Use a clean cloth to remove dirt and oil from the fuel filter head and breather valve.

Important: The fuel prime valve (3) plays no role in the air bleeding procedures. Do not touch the valve under any circumstances.

6. Inspect the fuel filter for leakage.
7. Use the palm of your hand to repeatedly press and release the plunger (1) at the top of the fuel filter priming pump until the plunger becomes firm. Depending on the fuel tank layout, this step may take 20-100 times.
8. Turn the fuel filter breather valve screw (2) counterclockwise several turns to open the breather valve.
9. Use the palm of your hand to repeatedly press and release the plunger (1) at the top of the fuel filter priming pump until fuel begins to seep from the breather valve.

10. Turn the fuel filter breather valve screw (2) clockwise several turns to close the breather valve.

Tighten
Tighten the screw (2) to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

11. Use the palm of your hand to repeatedly press and release the plunger at the top of the fuel filter priming pump to send fuel to the engine. Perform this step 20 times.
12. Use a clean cloth to remove any fuel from the fuel filter and surrounding area.
13. Start the engine and allow the engine to idle for a few minutes.
