Tools Required

1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.2L (Caterpillar) engine

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 8.1L engine

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.8L engine

2. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine.
3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.



4. Install the J 46406 in order to secure the pulley and remove the fan hub nut from the hub in a counterclockwise rotation.
5. Remove the fan clutch assembly (2).
6. Inspect the following components for cracks, distortion, or other damage:

•

The belt

•

The hub

•	The adapter

•	The pulley

7. Remove the bolts from the fan clutch.
8. Separate the fan clutch from the fan blade.

1. Install the fan clutch (2) to the fan blade (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the bolts to the fan clutch.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

3. Install the fan clutch assembly to the pulley.
4. Install the J 38425 onto the fan clutch nut.

Install the J 46406 in order to secure the pulley.

Tighten
Tighten the nut clockwise to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
6. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Shroud Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine.
7. Install the air cleaner. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.2L (Caterpillar) engine

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 8.1L engine

•	Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.8L engine
