Warranty Admin. - Changes to General Motors Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS)

Subject:Changes to General Motors Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS)

Models:2005 and Prior GM Passenger Cars and Trucks
2005 and Prior HUMMER H2

The Campaign Eligibility section in GMVIS has been re-named to the Required Field Actions section and will now include Yellow Top bulletins. Yellow Top bulletins are defined as any System Enhancement bulletin or Emission Software Enhancement in which the dealer is required to perform the repair if the item is still showing as "Open" in GMVIS. These repairs should be treated just like a product recall and performed at no charge to the customer regardless of age or mileage of the vehicle. One difference that dealer personnel should understand is that notification letters have not been mailed to customers on these Yellow Top bulletins.

A recent enhancement within GMVIS will allow all Required Field Actions to change the status from "Open" to "Closed" with the payment of the appropriate warranty claims submission.

An additional field has also been added to the GMVIS Summary page that will outline other service related bulletins. The title of this field is "Service Informational Items". IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT ANY ITEMS IN THIS FIELD ARE NOT REQUIRED UNLESS THE CUSTOMER HAS EXPERIENCED THE SPECIFIC CONCERN NOTED IN THE BULLETIN INFORMATION. Items in this area will not have a status that changes from "Open" to "Closed" however, it will provide the bulletin number where the service advisor and technician can get additional information.

The information below outlines some of the changes in format of the information that will now be available in GMVIS to GM dealership service personnel.

REQUIRED FIELD ACTIONS

This section contains product recall information (RC) as well as On Board Diagnostic (OBD) system enhancement information also referred to as Yellow Top bulletins (YT) that are required for a given vehicle. The Campaign Information Processing System (CIPS) and Warranty Information Network System (WINS) are the source of this information. If recall information and/or Yellow Top bulletins are available, the following fields are displayed. If no product recall information and/or Yellow Top bulletins are available, then "Vehicle Has No Current Record of Outstanding Required Field Actions" is displayed.

ALL OF THESE ITEMS IN THIS SECTION SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY A DEALER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN FOR ANY TYPE SERVICE.

   •

   •

Possible values are: "Closed" if service has been performed or the required field action has been closed, and "Open" if the vehicle is still eligible for service under the required field action.

SERVICE INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

This section contains Special Bulletin (SB) and Engineering Investigation (EI) information that may need to be addressed for a given vehicle. The Campaign Information Processing System (CIPS) and Warranty Information Network System (WINS) are the source of this information. If Special Bulletin (SB) and/or Engineering Investigation (EI) information is available, the following fields are displayed. If no Special Bulletin and/or Engineering Investigation information is available on the vehicle, then "Vehicle Has No Current Record of Outstanding Service Informational Items" is displayed.

The Required Field Action section of the General Motors Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) contains the following bulletins published on December 15, 2003. These bulletins now reflect a number that is consistent with the current Field Action Numbering System. Previously, the vehicles were reflected in GMVIS with a type of "RC". This has been changed. These and all future "Yellow Top" (Product enhancement/System Software upgrade) bulletins will be displayed as a type "YT". Any claims paid on these "YT" type bulletins using the appropriate "Y" labor operation, since the GMVIS change on April 26, 2004 show "Closed" in GMVIS. Any claims paid prior to this date using the appropriate "Y" labor operation will show "Closed" by May 31, 2004.

The following table outlines the "YT" Enhancement bulletins that reflect a number that is consistent with the current Field Action numbering system. These numbers are effective with changes on May 17, 2004 and will also be reflected in the SI (Service Information) database after May 31, 2004. These bulletins can be searched in SI by using the bulletin number.

The table provided below reflects the other "YT" bulletins that were published in 2001 and 2002 that have been re-numbered so that they are consistent with the current Field Action Numbering System. These bulletins have now been assigned a "Y" labor operation to allow for closure in GMVIS upon payment. Any claims previously paid on these bulletins will be manually updated in GMVIS to show "Closed" by May 31, 2004. Dealers should immediately start using the newly assigned "Y" labor operation for these "YT" bulletins.
