Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the electrical connector.
  3. Remove the brake lines from the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV).

  4. Object Number: 805985 Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolts that fasten the electronic brake control module (EBCM) to the BPMV.
  6. Notice: Do not use a tool to pry the EBCM from the BPMV. Excessive force will damage the EBCM.

  7. Remove the EBCM from the BPMV. Removal may require a light amount of force.
  8. Remove the BPMV mounting bracket nuts and washers.
  9. Remove the BPMV from the electric hydraulic control unit (EHCU) mounting bracket.
  10. Clean the BPMV with a clean, dry cloth.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Important: Do not reuse the EBCM mounting bolts. Always install new EBCM mounting bolts with the new EBCM.

  1. Install the BPMV onto the EHCU mounting bracket.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the BPMV mounting bolts to 9 N·m (7 lb ft).

  4. Install the new EBCM bolts.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in) in an X-pattern.

  6. Install the electrical connector.
  7. Install the EHCU to the vehicle.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
