Three-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement Three Piece-Rear

1. Block the wheels.
2. Support the propeller shaft.
3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
5. Remove the propeller shaft from the brake drum.



6. Remove the three-piece propeller shaft with tandem axle mounting.
7. Remove the propeller shaft.
8. Remove the center bearing assembly from the cross member. Refer to Propeller Shaft Center Support Bearing Replacement .

1. Install NEW universal joints to propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement and Universal Joint Replacement - External Snap Ring .
2. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
3. Install the slip yoke and the center bearing assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end. Refer to Slip Joint Replacement , Propeller Shaft Center Support Bearing Replacement and Propeller Shaft Assembly Component Lubrication .



4. Install the front propeller shaft to the brake drum. Keep the alignment marks together.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

5. Install and tighten the propeller shaft round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
6. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing.



7. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
8. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Propeller Shaft Assembly Component Lubrication .
9. Remove the wheel blocks.

Three-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement Three Piece-FRX

1. Block the wheels.
2. Support the propeller shaft.
3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
5. Remove the propeller shaft transfer case flange bolts (14).
6. Remove the center bearing assemblies from the crossmember. Refer to Propeller Shaft Center Support Bearing Replacement .
7. Remove the propeller shaft retainers (9) and bolts (10).



8. Remove the propeller shaft.

1. Install NEW universal joints to propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement - External Snap Ring .



2. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position and align the marks.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Install the propeller shaft retainers (9) and bolts (10).

Tighten
Tighten to 66 N·m (49 lb ft).

4. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
5. Install the center bearing assemblies to the crossmember bracket (4). Refer to Propeller Shaft Center Support Bearing Replacement .
6. Install the propeller shaft transfer case flange bolts (14).

Tighten
Tighten to 97 N·m (72 lb ft).




7. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
8. Remove the wheel blocks.
