J 45004 Fuel Tank Drain Hose

Important: Purge any residual fuel in J 45004 into an approved container prior to use.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with a drain plug, perform steps 4-11.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  5. Position a suitable container under the drain plug.
  6. Remove the fuel tank drain plug.
  7. Clean the drain plug threads of all grease, oil, and sealing compounds.
  8. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480).
  9. Remove the fuel from the fuel tank.
  10. Install the fuel tank drain plug.
  11. Notice: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in the Preface section.

  12. Tighten the drain plug.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the drain plug to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  14. If the vehicle is not equipped with a drain plug perform steps 11-13.
  15. Insert the J 45004 hose into the tank.
  16. Attach the J 45004 hose to the hose used with the hand or air operated pump devise.
  17. Using a hand or air operated pump drain as much fuel from the tank as possible.
