This bulletin is being revised to include Correction information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-49-019 (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some of the above-listed vehicles may exhibit a condition where some of the IPC gauges and vehicle systems become inoperative and the radio displays "LOC." All of the other systems are functioning properly. The speedometer and tachometer will be unaffected.

The PRNDL, seat belt, turn signal, and the hydraulic brake ABS lights are unaffected when the Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM) goes to sleep. The ABS system on the air brake equipped trucks is affected but the ABS light is turned on to warn the driver that the air ABS system is inoperative.

Specifically, the fuel gauge, volt meter, engine oil pressure gauge, air ABS system, radio, and Allison® MD transmission functions are affected. For the air ABS systems and Allison® transmissions, separate warning lights still function.

Correction

Using normal SPS reprogramming procedures, reprogram the Serial Data Gateway Module (SDGM) with the updated calibrations that were released with TIS version 12 for 2003 or later.

Important: When the VIN is requested from the CAT controller, the controller may return an "incomplete VIN". When the SPS asks for VIN verification, make sure all of the 17 VIN digits are correct.

If this process does not correct the condition, verify and/or do the following items:

    • Connect the Tech 2® and look for Loss of Communication DTCs.
    • Inspect the terminal pin contacts for the IPC.
    • Inspect the Gateway module connections (C6500-C8500 (Family 3) models).
    • Verify that the IP wire harness is not making contact and/or chafing on the dash support casting (mag beam).
