BULLETIN 52-05-09 DATED OCTOBER, 1995, ANNOUNCED THE 1996 GM TIRE WARRANTY PROGRAM FOR ALL DIVISIONS (EXCEPT SATURN). THE PURPOSE OF THIS BULLETIN IS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND TO CLARIFY SEVERAL OF THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.

TIRE REQUISITION AND RETURN DOCUMENT

A GM TIRE REQUISITION AND RETURN DOCUMENT MUST BE COMPLETED TO OBTAIN TIRES. THIS DOCUMENT IS ATTACHED. IT IS ALSO INCLUDED IN BULLETIN 52-05-09, IN THE GM TECHLINE TIRE WARRANTY PROCEDURES BOOKLET (GM-TIRES 95-B), AND IN THE GM SERVICE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL, ARTICLE 1.5. ADDITIONAL COPIES OF THIS FORM SHOULD BE MADE LOCALLY AT YOUR DEALERSHIP AS NEEDED.

NOTE: THE GM TIRE WARRANTY PROCEDURES BOOKLET AND VIDEO CAN BE OBTAINED BY CALLING 1-800-393-4831. THESE TRAINING MATERIALS SHOULD BE MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR REVIEW AS NECESSARY BY EXISTING AND NEW DEALER PERSONNEL.

OBTAINING NEW TIRES

NEW TIRES FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES ARE TO BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE TIRE COMPANY'S EXISTING DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM. THIS IS EASIEST DONE THROUGH A LOCAL TIRE DEALER. IF A TIRE DEALER IS NOT CONVENIENT, CALL THE TIRE MANUFACTURER'S 1-800-NUMBER (LISTED IN BULLETIN, TRAINING BOOKLET, AND VIDEO) FOR ASSISTANCE. SOME TIRE COMPANIES WILL DIRECT SHIP TO THE GM DEALERSHIP. IN THESE INSTANCES, A TIRE REQUISITION AND RETURN DOCUMENT MUST STILL BE COMPLETED.

UPS TIRE RETURN SHIPPING LABELS

PRE-ADDRESSED, PRE-PAID SHIPPING LABELS TO RETURN REMOVED TIRES TO THEIR RESPECTIVE TIRE COMPANIES CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THE GM FULFILLMENT CENTER, CALL 1-800-269-5100 OR FAX A COPY OF THE ATTACHED FAX FORM TO (313) 525-0659. BE SURE TO PROVIDE ALL THE INFORMATION REQUESTED ON THE FORM WHEN FAXING OR HAVE THE SAME INFORMATION AVAILABLE IF CALLING. IMPORTANT: REMOVED TIRES MUST BE RETURNED TO THEIR TIRE MANUFACTURER.

TIRE RETURN AND ACCOUNTING

DEALERS ARE TO RETURN FAILED TIRES TO THE RESPECTIVE TIRE COMPANY RETURN CENTER IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT. DEALER IS RESPONSIBLE TO RETAIN COPIES OF TIRE RETURN SHIPPING INFORMATION THAT DOCUMENTS THE TIRE RETURN. EACH TIRE MANUFACTURER CLOSELY MONITORS AND REPORTS RECEIPT OF FAILED TIRES FROM GM DEALERS AND INSPECTS EACH TIRE FOR CAUSE OF FAILURE. IF FAILED TIRES ARE NOT RECEIVED BY THE MANUFACTURER WITHIN 30 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF PROCUREMENT, A DEALER DEBIT FOR THE SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE OF THE TIRE WILL BE CHARGED TO THE DEALER'S OPEN ACCOUNT.

TIRE WARRANTY LABOR CODES

THE CORRECT TIRE WARRANTY LABOR CODES MUST BE USED AS SHOWN IN THE GM LABOR TIME GUIDES. THESE SEVEN CODES, E0431 - E0437 ARE UNIQUE FOR EACH TIRE BRAND (ALSO SEE BULLETIN 52-05-09 OR 60-05-01). LABOR CODE E0421 IS NOT TO BE USED FOR TIRE WARRANTY REPLACEMENTS, IT IS TO BE USED ONLY ON TRANSPORTATION CLAIMS FOR DAMAGED OR INCORRECT TIRE REPLACEMENTS AS NOTED IN THE LABOR TIME GUIDES.

ROAD HAZARD COVERAGE ON SEALANT TIRES

ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT SEALANT TIRES (GENERAL GEN*SEAL OR UNIROYAL ROYAL SEAL) ARE COVERED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER AGAINST ROAD HAZARD FAILURES. ASSIST THE CUSTOMER BY CONTACTING THE APPROPRIATE TIRE COMPANY TO ARRANGE FOR REPLACEMENT. ROAD HAZARD FAILURES ARE NOT TO BE PROCESSED THROUGH GM'S CLAIM SYSTEM. THE GM TIRE COVERAGE IS FOR DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP ONLY. ROAD HAZARD COVERAGE IS NOT PROVIDED ON ANY OTHER (NON-SEALANT) TIRES.

NON ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES

NON ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES ARE NOT TO BE PROCESSED THROUGH GM'S CLAIM SYSTEM. WARRANTY COVERAGE IS TO BE HANDLED DIRECTLY WITH THE APPROPRIATE TIRE MANUFACTURER. THIS WOULD INCLUDE VEHICLES SUCH AS CONVERSION VANS WHERE DIFFERENT TIRES ARE INSTALLED BY THE CONVERSION COMPANY.

GENERAL MOTORS BULLETINS ARE INTENDED FOR USE BY PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIANS, NOT A "DO-IT-YOURSELFER". THEY ARE WRITTEN TO INFORM THOSE TECHNICIANS OF CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR ON SOME VEHICLES, OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION THAT COULD ASSIST IN THE PROPER SERVICE OF A VEHICLE. PROPERLY TRAINED TECHNICIANS HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND KNOW-HOW TO DO A JOB PROPERLY AND SAFELY. IF A CONDITION IS DESCRIBED, DO NOT ASSUME THAT THE BULLETIN APPLIES TO YOUR VEHICLE, OR THAT YOUR VEHICLE WILL HAVE THAT CONDITION. SEE A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER SERVICING YOUR BRAND OF GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE FOR INFORMATION ON WHETHER YOUR VEHICLE MAY BENEFIT FROM THE INFORMATION.
