Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
- For RWD vehicles remove the oil filter from the oil filter adapter.
- For 4WD vehicles open the access panel in the steering linkage shield.
- Remove the oil filter from the remote oil filter adapter.
- Inspect to ensure the engine oil filter gasket is removed.
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.
- For a RDW vehicle install the oil filter to the oil filter adapter.
- For 4WD vehicle install the oil filter to the remote oil filter adapter.
- Tighten the oil filter following the instructions on the filter.
- Install the oil pan drain plug into the oil pan.
- Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
- Fill the crankcase with the proper capacity and quality of engine oil.
- Operate the engine and check for leaks and oil pressure.
- For a Four Wheel Drive vehicles close the access panel in the steering linkage shield.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
