Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side JD9

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1850956  Size: SH
  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  4. Disconnect the right park brake cable (1) from the intermediate cable equalizer bar (2).
  5. Release the right park brake cable from the frame bracket by compressing the locking tabs and pulling the cable conduit (3) rearward.

  7. Release the park brake cable (1) from the rear axle housing cover clip.
  8. Remove the park brake cable clip bolt (2).

  9. Object Number: 1850958  Size: SH
  10. Release the park brake cable from the rear axle bracket by compressing the locking tabs and pulling the park brake cable conduit (1) rearward.
  11. Disconnect the park brake cable eye (2) from the park brake actuator lever.
  12. Remove the park brake cable assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1850958  Size: SH
  1. Connect the right park brake cable eye (2) to the park brake actuator lever.
  2. Install the park brake cable to the rear axle bracket by pulling the cable conduit (1) rearward and inserting the cable conduit into the rear axle bracket.
  3. Ensure the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged into the rear axle bracket.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the park brake cable clip bolt (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  6. Connect the park brake cable (1) to the rear axle housing cover clip.

  7. Object Number: 1850956  Size: SH
  8. Connect the right rear park brake cable (1) to the intermediate cable equalizer bar (2).
  9. Insert the park brake cable conduit (3) into the frame bracket.
  10. Ensure the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged into the frame bracket.

  11. Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling.
  12. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1850956  Size: SH
  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  4. Disconnect the right park brake cable (1) from the intermediate cable equalizer bar (2).
  5. Release the right park brake cable from the frame bracket by compressing the locking tabs and pulling the cable conduit (3) rearward.

  7. Release the park brake cable (1) from the rear axle housing cover clip.
  8. Remove the park brake cable clip bolt (2).
  9. Remove the park brake cable from the cable guides.
  10. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.

  11. Object Number: 1276848  Size: SH
  12. Using the J 37043  (1), remove the park brake cable from the backing plate.

  13. Object Number: 1471719  Size: SH
  14. Remove the park brake cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1471719  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake cable to the vehicle.
  2. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
  3. Ensure the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged into the rear axle bracket.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the park brake cable clip bolt (2).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  6. Connect the park brake cable (1) to the rear axle housing cover clip.
  7. Install the park brake cable to the cable guides.

  9. Connect the right rear park brake cable (1) to the intermediate cable equalizer bar (2).
  10. Insert the park brake cable conduit (3) into the frame bracket.
  11. Ensure the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged into the frame bracket.

  12. Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling.
  13. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment.
