The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

As of 4/14/08 the Duramax Diesel MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor will be placed on restriction through the PQC as part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts to assist Engineering with product concern identification. Your cooperation with this program is greatly appreciated.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Complete the current SI diagnostics for any trouble code or symptom found. There are two concerns that should be reviewed before attempting MAF sensor repair or replacement. See the latest version of PIP4201 and PIP4307 before attempting MAF sensor replacement. If snow ingestion is verified review bulletin 07-06-04-033 before contacting PQC for a replacement MAF sensor.

If diagnosis has led to replacement of the MAF sensor please contact the PQC (866-654-7654). PQC will discuss the information/diagnostics that led to the replacement of the MAF sensor. Please complete the questionnaire below before calling the PQC.

MAF Sensor Questionnaire

  1. Customer Complaint (as it reads on the RO):
  2. Is there an aftermarket air filter or air induction system on the vehicle? If yes, remove and install GM parts. Re-evaluate for a P0101 code.
  3. Has DTC P0101 been set?
  4. Have the diagnostics for DTC P0101 been followed (SI Document ID # 1961178)? If yes, list steps below. If no, perform diagnostics before calling PQC.
  5. What is the MAF sensor reading at idle?
  6. Is there an air cooler hose or pipe leak? If yes, repair. If no, continue with questionnaire.
  7. Is the EGR valve working properly? If NO, repair as needed. If YES, continue with questionnaire.
  8. Was the ECM flashed?
  9. List the calibration/software ID# (from Tech2):

The PQC will document the dealer's diagnostics, discuss the repair with engineering, and send the new MAF sensor to dealers as needed.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
