The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Certain RPO codes may show up on vehicles that are not equipped with OnStar®. These codes could be misinterpreted as the vehicle having been manufactured with an OnStar® system and other OnStar® capabilities. RPO code verbiage may indicate the vehicle is capable of an providing an OnStar® feature or capability when it is not, due to the absence of the OnStar® system. Some of these descriptions can not be suppressed in GMVIS, however the UE1 RPO code will indicate the vehicle is equipped with OnStar®, and as such may capable of the additional feature. These additional OnStar® features often rely on other vehicle sub-systems and their capabilities; these are the capabilities that the RPOs are intending to indicate.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Please do not use GMVIS RPO codes to determine OnStar® hardware type and/or its features and capabilities. Instead, refer to the dealer invoice and/or vehicle monroney label. For more details on a particular vehicle's OnStar® specific features and capabilities; dealer should refer to the OnStar® user guide in the glove box or use the OnStar® hardware look-up tool, accessible through OnStar® on-line enrollment accessible through GM Dealerworld.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
