This PI is being updated to advise that the date codes applies to the original and replacement tires. Please discard PIT4193A.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment on Wear/Vibration/Flat Spotting on some P245/70R17 General Ameritrac. A tire construction change was made to help correct these concerns.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Check the date code of the tires and if they are not of the new construction, replace the tires. After receiving the new tires verify the replacement tires are of the new construction by check the date code.

These tires are built at two tire plants and the date code is different between the two plants. The complete eleven digit DOT number must be read to determine the plant and the date code. The first 2 digits designate the Plant and the last 4 are the date code.

If the first 2 digits are "P5" then the last 4 will need to be 4406 or later. If the first 2 digits are "A3" then the last 4 digits will need to be 4506 or later (see example below which is read as Plant "A3" and the 30th week of 2006). The 4 digit date code is read as the first 2 digits indicate the week of the year and the last 2 are the year, example 4406 is the 44th week of 2006.

Note: In most cases, only a partial DOT number will be on the outer side wall, and the complete DOT number will be on the vehicle side of the tire.
