The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may experience one of the following concerns:

  1. No crank or delayed crank, may be necessary to hold key in start position for several seconds until vehicle cranks and starts.
  2. Unwanted crank, the customer turns the key to the run position and then back to the off position without cranking the vehicle, and the starter will crank for 5-10 second after the key was turned to the off position.
  3. SES lamp with DTC P1682

The concerns listed above can be caused by aftermarket accessories being installed into the ignition switch wiring.

Note: A low voltage condition may set a DTC P1682.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If you experience one or all of the above concerns, Check for aftermarket accessories being installed into the ignition switch circuits. Reports from the field have found circuit 4 of the ignition switch to be the most common circuit.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
